You're Unique... Just Like Everybody Else!

The other day I wanted to write a review on iTunes for a podcast that is really neat and run by some great ladies.  One in particular is pretty fine, too!  But I've never written a review before so I needed to come up with a username.  I take it that this would be my moniker for all future reviews so it's gotta be slick, right?!  So I went with ol' faithful, MikeD.  Apple graciously let me know that "This nickname is taken. Enter another and try again." No prob.  Hey, who wouldn't want to to roll with the name of one of the Beastie Boys?...especially the one that gets respect!

Silly Rabbit, Pix are for Kids!

Kids are great storytellers, as some of us know all too well!  Why not have them employ it in a properly creative and guided manner, rather than when we ask them who ate the last of the cookies?!  So props to my wife for a rockin' idea, as we share our first official photo appreciation session here at the Dees household.  To take holy words out of context, "Forbid them not."

There and Back Again... A Photographer's Tale

I thought I’d set out to share my journey in digital photography with the good folks over at Fuji Rumors.  Perhaps some of you have a similar experience and the story will resonate with you, but maybe not.  I actually think that at this point I have a somewhat unique perspective on the worth of Fuji and gladly extol their virtues to the nations.  Here we go…

"Did You Photoshop That?"

Let's first get out of the way that the question may sound a bit archaic.  Since such a massive amount of images are now snapped on phones instead of cameras, "Photoshopping" images is all but gone.  Does anybody ask, "Did you Snapseed that?" or "Did you VSCO that?"  Probably not.  Editing is assumed, filters and presets are omnipresent.  Anyhow, let the reader know that here I'm talking about DSLR images and also of landscape images.   Later I will do a post on the ethics and artfulness of editing urban street images.  For what it's worth, I found the following stat after some looking into the matter, but who knows if it has been Enroned or not? 90% of people have only taken photos on a camera phone versus a camera... Wow!...

I Swear I'm not Anti-Social

As I start to rock 'n roll in the world of photography in a public manner, I'm faced with the inevitable... to IG or not to IG?  That is the question.  Let it be known that Instagram here serves as a metonym for social media generally.  Facebook, 500px, flickr ,Behance, and other digital media publishing platforms ad infinitum.  One more qualification is that I mean social media for networking, artistic, and photographic business purposes.  I make no reference here to sharing with granny some pics of the kids marching out their first steps, which is awesome!...

Hello, World!

How exactly do I start and where?  Recently with a friend, I ran some blog post ideas by him and the response was something like what I expected.  Some comments to the good, others were more like, "meh", and lastly, in the middle, were the tellingly ambivalent expressions.  Unexpectedly, toward the end of it all he asked,  "What exactly is it that you are trying to do with the site?"  I was kinda stumped at the question and I still am...
